Everett E. Houghton Company: A Legacy of Family and Growth

Founded in 1948 by Everett E. Houghton, Everett E. Houghton Company started as a humble one-man operation. The company's growth over the years from a small operation to a team of over 20 employees is a testament to the perseverance and vision of its founder.

In the summer of 1968, after many years of operating out of his home on Elm Street and utilizing an old cattle barn for materials and supplies, Everett and a friend made the bold decision to demolish the two-story building. This marked the beginning of a new phase for the company as they made way for a modern, multi-purpose garage. Over the course of the following eight months, the new garage was constructed, and it served as the heart of the E.E. Houghton Company for the next 47 years.

  • Nancianne, William's devoted wife and a key figure in the business passed in 2020.

  • Although William retired in 2018, his impact on the company and the family-oriented work environment he cultivated continued to resonate within E.E. Houghton Company. His passing in 2022 was a moment of reflection, honoring the legacy he had helped shape.

  • In 1969 Everett's health declined and he passed away in November of that year.

  • However, his son William, who had already been involved in the business, stepped up to continue his father's legacy.

  • Alongside him, his mother Esther took charge of the business's bookkeeping and licensing.

  • In 1989, Esther entrusted the books to William and his wife Nancianne, signaling a passing of the torch and a new era for the company. Their combined efforts provided stability and growth in the years that followed.

  • Currently second and third generation employees, spouses, in-laws and ‘family by choice’ all work at E.E. Houghton Company!

  • In 1996, while remaining an active participant in the day-to-day operations, William decided to sell the business to his son Mark, ensuring that the Houghton family legacy would continue into the next generation.

  • Under Mark's leadership, E.E. Houghton Company continued to flourish, embracing new opportunities and expanding its reach.

  • E.E. Houghton Co., continues to take pride in the family work environment modeled in 1948.
